« It is time to scale-up the fight for product durability. Join the movement! ». That is what Laetitia Vasseur, general delegate of HOP, declared on July 2, 2025 during the launch of the first alliance for durability. This project aims to animate an active network of actors engaged for product durability. The announcement was made during the sixth Plate conference in Aalborg, Denmark. It is a bi-annual conference for researchers. Invited as a key personality working on the transition towards durable products, Laetitia Vasseur talked about french repairability and durability indexes as well as the repair bonus. Her intervention inspired the wide and international panel of researchers attending.
An independent alliance to support local initiatives and accompany change makers
This alliance brings, by its total independence, a freedom during the exchanges between members. The cofounders believe both in the power of collective thinking and of the importance of exchanging best practices. This could lead to concrete changes all over the world.
Sharing experiences and resources (scientific articles, press articles, interviews, webinars…) aims to promote and incentivize local initiatives. More generally, the IAD accelerates the promotion of product durability and shows the interest of stakeholders across the globe. In fact, feedbacks after the launch of the Alliance have been thrilling.
A needed upscale of initiatives
HOP contributes actively to change at a European level through the Right to repair coalition. The association also co-directed a working group of the UNEP and Consumers International on product lifetime extension. Nevertheless, the international development of French victories lacks resource-sharing. The Alliance will create this needed independent area where members could share knowledge, develop synergies and improve visibility and impact.
The subscription is free. It gives access to resources and to the network of the Alliance. Few months after its launch, it already has more than 50 members coming from all continents and of all kinds (researchers, NGOs, individuals, companies). The project also immediately gained the support of Ashoka.
The IAD just undergoes its early stages. HOP’s team and the main partners work thoroughly on the upcoming steps. Until the first deliverables and meetings, we need you, actors of product durability.
