HOP is an association focusing on uniting citizens to promote product durability and repairability, and address planned obsolescence!
We are working to extend product lifespan, defend consumers’ interests and preserve the environment.
It all started in 2015, when France became the first country to ban planned obsolescence. Laetitia Vasseur, together with Samuel Sauvage and Émile Meunier, founded the non-profit-making association called HOP – Halte à l’obsolescence programmée (Stop Planned Obsolescence) to tackle this new criminal offence. Their ambition is to address this environmental curse.
More than 10 years later, the association has grown into a community of 60,000 people and is recognised as a certified environmental protection association.
Our vision
HOP is an association committed to transforming the current linear economic model, which relies on planned or accelerated obsolescence, and to fostering a circular economy that is responsible, fair and designed to benefit the common good.
The association supports a positive, optimistic, joyful and ambitious transformative vision focused on solutions and a down-to-earth approach.
HOP’s work aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: “Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns”.
Our purpose
HOP believes that overconsumption has a tremendous impact on the environment and that manufacturers and suppliers are primarily responsible for product obsolescence.
